Get Involved
The Museum relies on many committed individuals who volunteer their time and talents to help us keep our programs and operations running smoothly. Some are the first you see when visiting the Museum and others are hard at work behind the scenes helping the Museum staff with various tasks. We are always looking for new, enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in getting more deeply involved with the Museum by giving their time. Take a look below at our volunteer needs and see if something sparks your interest. We hope to welcome you as a volunteer to the Museum soon!
To sign up as a volunteer or for more information, please contact Ivy Alley at ialley@msmuseumart.org.
Greeter
Our greeters are, in many ways, the face of the Museum. They are the first people a visitor sees upon arrival to the Museum and are critical to ensuring that a visitor’s experience gets off to a good start. Greeters help visitors get oriented to the layout of the Museum, answer questions about current exhibitions, and provide interactive activities to visitors upon request.
Typical time commitment: once per week for ½ day
Docent
Docents are essential to the MMA’s education programs by leading interactive tours throughout the galleries for visitors of all ages. After completing comprehensive training led by MMA staff, our docents lead tours that encourage deep, meaningful engagement with both the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, and incorporate interactive gallery activities into their tours.
Typical time commitment: two days per month for approximately 3 hours per day
Administrative Helper
Folding, stuffing, cutting, copying, filing, mailing are all necessary to keep our facility operating. Can you help us with these “behind the scenes” needs? We’d love to put your name, along with your best available day/time, on a list so that we can give you a call when the need arises!
Typical time commitment: as needed
Studio Volunteer
Are you a practicing artist interested in sharing your talents with us? We are always in need of artists who are willing to share their expertise in our studios. This might mean leading a school tour group in a hands-on art making activity or conducting on-going art making activities during one of our Saturday Family Days. We maintain a roster of volunteers and their particular area of art-making expertise that we call upon when a need arises.
Typical time commitment: as needed
Gardener and/or Flower Arranger
Do you have a green thumb? Do you have a talent for growing or arranging flowers? Will you share the fruits of your labor? The MMA needs help in maintaining our beautiful garden, with pulling weeds or small planting projects OR to help with flowers and/or arrangements for the volunteer desk, programs, receptions, and parties. If gardening or flower arranging is your gift, please freely donate!
Typical time commitment: as needed
