Cocoon Jackson

Thanks to everyone who participated in Cocoon Jackson!  The response to Cocoon Jackson was tremendous, and we are deeply grateful to artist Kate Browne and the community of Jackson for making it such an enormous success.   As we begin the process of taking the structure down, we want to offer anyone who participated in building the Cocoon or in a mini-cocoon workshop the opportunity to help un-build the structure and/or collect their mini-cocoon.  Due to the enormous rains we’ve experienced, however, many of the small cocoons have been damaged from the elements and are unsalvageable.  Please know that despite this, the Museum has taken great care to keep every component of the Cocoon we possibly can.  We encourage you to stop by the Museum this Saturday, April 7 from 10 PM until 5 PM to collect your cocoon should you wish.  We also invite you to join us in The Art Garden at the Mississippi Museum of Art as we un-build the Cocoon structure on Friday, April 6 at 1 PM.

The community-building and participatory spirit of Cocoon Jackson is something that will live on far beyond the physical removal of the structure.  Cocoon laid a foundation upon which the Museum will continue to build with its many community partners.  Plans for future participatory projects are already underway, and we look forward to keeping you updated as these plans unfold.
